Professor Azizan Baharuddin of the University of Malaya graduated
from the University of Tasmania with a Bachelor of Science Hons degree in Biology and PhD from the University of Lancaster, U.K. (1989) in History and Philosophy of Science. Her main areas of interests are environmental and bioethics, science and religion. She has authored more than 100 publications in these areas. Currently she is Deputy Director General of the Institute of Islamic Understanding Malaysia (IKIM) where she actively promotes ideas and reflections on Quran and Science as well as environmental sustainability the among others via a weekly radio talk show, conferences as well as regular publications in the local tabloids. Amongst other commitments she is a member of UNESCO’s International Bioethics Committee, Chair of the Malaysian Bioethics (which includes environmental ethics) Council and Chair of the National Committee of Interfaith Harmony.
