In his current role, Ambassador Mohammed Kamran Akhtar is responsible for the promotion of sustainable development which enables the OIC Member States to improve the quality of life of their peoples while protecting the environment, respecting the ecosystem and without compromising the quality of lives of future generations. He is also in charge of advocacy and awareness raising on environmental and climate change issues in addition to providing support to OIC member countries in improving their public health and higher education systems. He has an MSc in Physics and Nuclear Reactor Design. He was the Director of Arms Control, Disarmament and Non-Proliferation in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Pakistan after duty tour as Pakistan’s Alternate Permanent Representative in Vienna. He has participated in several UN/IAEA Expert Groups and has been involved in a number of regional and international negotiations on Atomic Energy, Drugs, and Arms Control.
